Y: Yes

Where does life go?
My sweet daughter watches a TV program called "Say Yes to the Dress".  I've never seen it but I like the title.  I am going to play off that and suggest that it is time for me to say yes to the mess that is life.

Somewhere back in my youth, I thought that if you did certain things in a certain way then you would realize a certain outcome.  Hmmmmmmmm.  So not true.  I am older and, yes, wiser now.  I know now that life is so much more disorganized, so much more cluttered and, yes, so much messier than that.  I am learning to embrace unpredictability.  I look for surprises every day and accept the constant adjustments that life demands - no choice on so many so why not ride it out with curiosity?  Life is complicated.  Life is a mystery.  Life is random.  But I am also all three of those things.

   How about you?

  1. I'm afraid I'm far to exhausted with life right now to be curious about its surprises. I am going to try to work on acceptance first. Perhaps once I get that down, I can concentrate more on the curiosity thing.

  2. I have a hard time embracing unpredictability. When things upset my plans, I have a tendency to get...well, upset.

    I'm working on this.

    1. I hear you - it can be tough when what you expect will happen next - or worse, what you have planned to happen next - does not happen. I want to be curious instead of upset.

  3. Forget the mess part; just say yes to life.

    1. Yes, I can do that but I think I need to recognize the inherent messiness. Otherwise, I get mad at myself or life because I want it to be neat and orderly and it is not.

  4. I have had a tendency to just kind of go with the flow of life with maybe a few too questions or plans. It's always worried me a little but this post put my mind at ease a bit. ;)

  5. I like to think of myself as flexible, but am I really? Or am I in a huge rut, a hamster on a wheel? The desk top I'm looking at says I must be a "yes to the mess" person. Hmn.

    1. Sadly, I hear you Melanie. It's that rat on the wheel that scares me (I am not even a hamster....)
