Do The Fish See?

Pools deep and dark
smooth steel with an edge
of broken glass

Sand drifting
covering voices and bodies
soft shadow hides

Stillness and silence
close to the ground
with eyes on the sky

Do the fish see?
Shimmering screams
What do they want?

  2. Interesting poem, Gracie. I'm not sure how to reply, cuz I don't know the answer. But I'm glad to see you writing, and I enjoyed the photos, and the poem. Thank you, for taking the time.

    1. Yeah, I don't know the answer either....the fish were in a dream. I was trying to escape a funky old house with strangers in it and I went out to the deck. The deck faced directly on to a lagoon and the fish (many ,many of them) swam up to me and called my name over and over again - in a very demanding way. Go figure.

  4. Oh, I was going to say that I liked the poem, but I enjoy it so much more now that I have the back story to go with it. Explains the emotions. Lovely:)

    1. The backstory does help, doesn't it? I have the image in my mind - might try putting it in paint this weekend. That would be interesting.

  5. The "answer" is obvious: The fish were part of a school, so they naturally were attracted to you...

    1. Good insight! And making demands on me - loud and incessant demands!

  8. I have read this several times, but can't think of remotely intelligent to say about it. It gives me chills, I can tell you that--and I'm not even sure why. Thanks for sharing it.

    1. MM - get real! Everything you say is intelligent! You can't not be intelligent.

It gives me the chills too and I can't even say why. It is spoken from a place that I can't fully access but which embraces me in a way that is scary. Putting it on paper lets me get inside of it. Now how intelligent is THAT?
